Kali and Collie Weed. Kali the Hindu goddess came to Jamaica with the indentured laborers from India in the mid 1840’s. The cannabis plant is associated with this Indian deity and the word ganja is a sanskrit word for hemp. Kali the sacred feminine synonymous with strength and potency in Hindu Mythology overtime became collie which was slang for cannabis.
